In our studio courses, both first and second year students of the Strategic Design and Management Master of Science work in groups to develop solutions to a client challenge. The studio class gives our students an opportunity to put their knowledge to work on real world projects.
Our program has worked with a diverse array of partners, from major companies like General Electric, Carhartt, and Eileen Fischer, to impactful non-profit organizations such as Goodwill, Planned Parenthood, and the New Jersey Education Association, to startups like XRC Labs, Bonbouton, and Bixby.
Each student is assigned a creative brief from the external partner that poses a challenge that the client is seeking to overcome. Using design thinking and methodology, our students devise a solution to this challenge over the course of the semester, including research, strategy, development and prototyping. The final deliverable of all our external partnerships is a presentation of the students’ own research and findings that illustrates a novel approach to the client’s challenge.
