Problems: In Japan, severe problems including a declining population, aging society, strict social norms/groupthink and a language barrier impact small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) negatively through revenue decrease, talent and workforce decrease, lack of diverse perspectives and global market information barriers. These problems make it difficult for Japanese SMEs to expand their businesses abroad to increase their revenue while preserving their cultures and technologies. Hidden Value of Sawdust 2024
My project aims to tackle the issue of wood waste generated by small businesses and individual woodworkers, specifically the challenge of repurposing sawdust which accounts for half of their wood waste. I saw an opportunity to prolong the use of sawdust and created a versatile and natural sawdust mixture that can be used to create a variety of objects or products. My end solution challenges the concept of waste by creatively and affordably repurposing sawdust into functional and beautiful objects, thereby creating something valuable.
