MS SDM Strategic Design Symposium

April 9, 2024

Capstone Presentations 2024

We invite you to the MS SDM 2024 Capstone Symposium which will be held during the weeks of April 29th and May 6th. At the Symposium, graduating students will share their capstone studio presentations with the greater community for knowledge sharing, networking, dialogue, reflection, and celebration.

The Parsons Graduate program in Strategic Design and Management brings together design thinking, innovation management, and applied social sciences responds to the need for businesses and organizations to address complex 21st-century economic, environmental, and social challenges. Methods from studio practice such as ideation, ethnographic research, prototyping, and service design are used to devise approaches to business and social innovation in global contexts. Students gain design-based skills while developing sophisticated and critical perspectives on organizational management and strategy, financial and environmental sustainability, entrepreneurship, and ethical leadership.

In the Design Strategy Capstone Studio, taken in the second half of the second-year MS-SDM capstone experience, students working in teams or solo develop a strategic plan for bringing a concept to implementation. Course activities include outreach to external partners, experts, groups, potential investors, and other stakeholders, developing networks of trust and links to potential future partners and employers. Students pursue experimental approaches to prototyping and iterative testing where appropriate. The final deliverable for the course is a comprehensive presentation of a strategic plan, with possible product demos, demonstrating the students’ mastery of the strategic design tools and methods.
