Gender Equality in Politics Project

July 1, 2020

Description: 120 is the number of years that it will take to achieve gender equality in politics in Colombia. This project started when I asked myself how we might shorten this number.

After some research and understanding that the career of a woman in politics officially begins in the municipal council, I decided to develop a design intervention to increase the number of young women elected as municipal councilors.

As of now, only 14% of councilors are women, and those who have been elected have had to deal with many obstacles, particularly the lack of money to hire professionals and lack of resources. With that in mind, The GEP Collective was born. This is a non-partisan, two-sided networking platform that brings together skilled professionals and women political candidates.  Our goal is to lower the barrier of entry for volunteers, to provide networking benefits, and to level the playing field for women political candidates. As we fill out the gaps of the different logistical parts of the campaign, they will be able to focus on the big picture instead.
