Here is a list of things to do and see in New York for this week. The list for this week is by Dean of School of Design Strategies, Cynthia Lawson Jaramillo.

  1. Travel by ferry and be reminded that we live across a set of islands. In the summer, take the ferry to a beach!
  2. Walk across the Brooklyn Bridge during the “golden hour” (just before sunset.) That transition from sunlight to the lights of the city is just magical!
  3. Take the 7 train, from start to finish, and taste a dish at each stop once you’re in Queens. It’s the most ethnically diverse line in NYC and probably the world!
  4. Attend a cultural event in Greenwood Cemetery, Brooklyn. “Home” to many celebrities including Jean-Michel Basquiat and William Merritt Chase (who founded the Chase School which would later become Parsons!) The cemetery serves as a stage for theatre performances, music & light shows, and more.
  5. Buy a sled (plastic from a hardware store is just fine) well in advance of the first snowfall. Take a snow day and go to Central, Prospect, or Sunset Park to release that inner child joy of screaming while you “fly” down a hill.
