Starbucks-2

Within the next year, the coffee makers, refrigerators, and other appliances at your favorite Starbucks will be connected to the internet.

The company plans to double the number of its Clover coffee machines, which connect to the cloud, tracks the preferences of customers, allows digital update of recipes, and help baristas remotely monitor the performance of the machine. The company also plans to install connected refrigerators that alert staff when a carton of milk has spoiled.

According to an article on Bloomberg, the company is investing in technologies that can help the productivity of its operations personnel as well as improve the experience of its customers.

More and more businesses are joining the trend of linking their operations and equipment to the internet to improve how they work and how they service their clients, and Starbucks has been one of the companies leading the pack.

Starbucks has been quite adaptive to technology–providing WiFi to its customers and allowing payment via mobile apps– and this new direction towards more connectivity in their stores shows that the company continues to integrate technology in how they do business.
