Job Opportunity – Product Manager, Experience Design
Head of Experience Design
Location: Brooklyn
Position: Full-Time
2015 is already a breakout year for Fluent City. Our top priority is to redesign our customer experience and brand to position ourselves as your destination for cultural enrichment. We are looking for a visionary, entrepreneurial Experience Designer to both drive strategy and lead a rigorous and rapid implementation process, in close contact with our marketing and academic teams.
We want to talk to you if you:
• Love conceiving and building experiences that stick with customers forever.
• Have a deep understanding of how brand is communicated through all consumer touchpoints.
• Have strong opinions about the value of culture and lifelong learning.
• Approach everything you do with an entrepreneurial spirit and strategic savvy.
• Appreciate good design and how the ‘cool’ factor enhances customer experience.
About Fluent City
Fluent City offers awesome language classes and cultural events for adults. As opposed to traditional players (e.g., Berlitz), Fluent City’s classes are fun, social, and focused on conversation—not grammar and memorization. We also run a broad range of cultural events, from “Italian Cooking” to seminars on “How to Move Abroad”.
We cater to young (and young-ish) professionals, and have strong traction. Started in 2011, in 2014 we ran 700 classes in ten languages across four cities (New York, D.C., Boston, and Philadelphia). We are profitable.
In late 2014, Fluent City was acquired by a group of education and technology entrepreneurs, including several of the founders of General Assembly and Noodle. Fluent City is the foundation upon which we are building a large, diversified, casual learning business focused on the contemporary Liberal Arts (e.g. language, art, cooking).
Fluent City is a rare company: the perfect blend of startup (fast-growth, big ambitions, top talent and track record) and robust sustainable business (profitable, loyal customers, product-market fit). We are building a $1B+ company. Join us.
About the Head of Experience Design Position
Today our core product is 20-hour offline language classes (e.g. “French 1”). We need to quickly evolve and expand our offerings to include:
• A long form, outcomes-focused product for our Learners.
• A subscription/membership product focused on unique and amazing experiences for our Explorers.
• Extensions into new categories (e.g. cooking, art) and modalities (e.g. a supporting online layer).
About You
You:
• Have overseen all aspects of the creation and delivery of successful products and experiences for a lifestyle or education brand.
• Have led teams in deep-dives into the consumer mindset and come back with revolutionary designs and features.
• Execute like a rookie and lead like a multiplier. You proudly identify as an “operator” rather than a “manager,” are excited by the prospect of joining a small, lean team, and have a demonstrated history of balancing strategic leadership with shipping real work.
• Share our passion, vision, and values. We are a fun, international team that puts mutual respect, empathy, and trust at the center of our culture. We are deeply committed to feedback, continuous improvement, and professional development. We are reliable, deliver on our commitments, accountable for our failures, and rigorous in our analysis. We are passionate about enriching lives through education, connecting with other people and cultures, and creating amazing real-world experiences.
