Enrico Fontanari is a Professor of Urban and Landscape Design and Planning at the University IUAV of Venice (Italy) and in several international Masters and Ph.D. programs. Since 2006, Fontanari serves as Pro-Vice-Chancellor for the International Affairs of the University IUAV of Venice. His professional and academic work has been published widely in Urban and Landscape Design and Planning publications. He has frequently acted as a consultant to the United Nations, World Bank, European Union and other international agencies and organizations. Fontanari has more then 30 years of international professional experience, and has directed master planning and strategic design projects in Italy, Tanzania, Peru, Equador, Colombia, Algeria, Nepal and many other countries across the world. His consulting and professional projects include: Director of the Project for the New Master Plan of Dar es Salaam City 2012-2032– a World Bank project; Director of the Project for the evaluation of the state of conservation of the Historic Centre of Cusco (Republic of Perù – 2010) for Unesco-World Heritage Centre; Director of the Project for the construction of a National Urban Network of the main metropolitan and urban centres of Algeria (Algeria 2006-07); Co-Director of the Project for the Upgrading of the Slums and poor Neighborhood of the Metropolitan Area of Quito (Ecuador- 2005); Co-director of the Study about the Heritage Areas declared “World Heritage Sites in Danger” in the Kathmandu Valley (Nepal 2003-04) – a UNESCO Project.
