The Parsons Transdisciplinary Design program, ThoughtWorks, and Blue Ridge Foundation New York have teamed up to offer a Digital Prototype Opportunity to help nonprofits develop new digital tools to broaden the impact of their offline work. The opportunity is a mix of funding and hands on support worth roughly $150,000. Non-profits with a vision for how technology can extend their program’s reach, lower their costs, or add significant new capacities to their existing models will have the chance pitch their idea to garner support and resources.
A team consisting of 1st and 2nd year Transdisciplinary Design students recently led a series of workshops working with over 100 organizations. Proving their passion for social impact and strategic innovation, the Parsons students designed, and facilitated the workshops on a completely volunteer basis. While the first workshop was held at the ThoughtWorks, the latest workshop took place in the TransDesign Studio space and played host to representatives from roughly 60 non-profits. Participants were taken through several design-thinking activities over the course of the 2 hour workshop to help them frame, strengthen, and expound on their ideas.
