SDS Course Proposal Procedure and Documents

September 28th, 2010 by Mathan Ratinam
Dear SDS FTF,
cc: Dean, Advisers, and Administrators
I would like to remind all of you that if we need to do any changes to our curricula (SDS and its programs), now is the time for proposing changes that will be implemented in Fall 11-Spring 12. Our SDS deadline for accepting proposals to be reviewed by the School Curriculum Committee is Friday, October 15 by 5 PM. You are welcome to submit your proposal at any time prior to the deadline. It is highly recommended that before submitting a proposal to be reviewed by the SCC, you should discuss it with the Director of Academic Affairs (Carlos Teixeira) to identify the best way to proceed with your proposal. Changes in the curriculum are very complex and involves many variables. The DAA can help you position the proposal and address all other complexities. Just keep in mind that the DAA can’t say yes or no to a proposal. He only has an advising role. The merit of the proposal will be evaluated by the SCC members, to whom the DAA presents the proposals but doesn’t vote.
Attached to this email you can find all the material that you need to submit a proposal to the SCC:
Course: to be completed and submitted to SCC for final review
Cluster: to be completed, submitted to SCC for vetting, then submitted to PCC for final review
Program Requirement/Policy: to be completed, submitted to SCC for vetting, then submitted to PCC for final review
Proposal Response: to be used by SCC and PCC in responding to proposals
Attribute Glossary: provides further instruction for the various templates
So, if you have proposals for changes in the curriculum, you need to fill the form that is appropriate for your proposal (course, cluster or program/policy changes) by Friday, October 15 at 5 PM. Please submit it by email to the co-chairs of the School Curriculum Committee: Aaron Fry (frya@newschool.edu) and Carlos Teixeira (teixeirc@newschool.edu). No proposals will be accepted after this deadline. FYI, SCC will meet on Tuesday, October 19 from 10 to 12 to review all proposals. We will do our best to communicate the results asap. The approved changes will be implemented by the DAA in conjunction with program directors, coordinators, operations, and advising.
I am looking forward for your proposals.
Best,
Carlos
