Did you hear the news ?! We’re excited to share that Zer, and undergraduate founders Danny and Kate, were recognized by Verizon and the New York City Media Lab in January.
2017 Cohort fellows, Kate Wallace and Danny Dang, began Zer as a news platform aiming to engage generation Z with substantial news through augmented reality, virtual reality and mobile games. Now, Zer is a focused games studio utilizing emerging technology to revolutionize education beyond the classroom.
Verizon awarded $200,000 to university teams for the creation of new prototypes within three topic areas: augmented and mixed reality, conversational interfaces, and the Internet of Things. Eleven projects by faculty and students from Columbia University, Cornell Tech, City University of New York, The New School, New York University, School of Visual Arts, and Pratt Institute will participate in the program. With funding from the Mayor’s Office of Media & Entertainment, this program provides resources and workspace to foster creativity and entrepreneurship in media and technology in New York City. The ten projects were selected based on distinctiveness, feasibility and professionalism working on projects in documentary filmmaking, narrative filmmaking, gaming, post-production, animation, virtual reality, and media/technology.
MORE RECOGNITION? // Danny and Kate have additionally won the regional for the Global Student Entrepreneur Award in Canada and were finalists in the US national competition. Now, they’re preparing to apply for the Clinton Global Initiative Award, Global Solutions Program, and the William Randolph Hearst Scholarship from The New School!
